W R A P T O R V 3 Program by Bill Lucier with Fixes by Doreen Horne Text by Fender Tucker NOTE: WRAPTOR V3 is a 64-mode program and must be run in the 40-column, C-64 mode. Therefore, it can't be called from the LOADSTAR 128 menu. A quick way to go to the 64 mode is to reset your computer while holding down the C= key. Of course you also have to switch your monitor to the 40 column mode. WRAPTOR V3 is an archival program. It takes a program (or group of programs) and packs them into a file that's much smaller than the sum of the files being packed. The file cannot be used, as is, but WRAPTOR V3 will also unWRAP it back into the former files. There are many packing/ unpacking tools in existence but WRAPTOR not only does it better, it also packs and unpacks Geos files. That's why we WRAP all of the Geos stuff we publish on LOADSTAR. Geos USR files are awkward to copy but WRAP files (which end in a ".wr3" suffix) are easy to copy. To unWRAP the GEOCANVAS 128 NOTES on LOADSTAR 128 #34, do the following: (1) RUN "wraptor v3" in the 64, 40-column mode and set input and output drives with I and O. They can be set to the same drive if you only have one. The input drive is the one with LS 128 #34 Side Two in it. The output drive should have a formatted disk -- preferably a Geos work disk -- with at least 250 blocks free in it. (2) Press A for Archive menu. (3) Press E for Extract. If a submenu of ".wr3" doesn't appear in the window, press E again. On some drives it never seems to work the first time. You get a blinking drive light. But press E again and it works. Weird. (4) Move the highlight bar to the "gc128 notes.wr3" file and press M. An asterisk will show by the filename, showing it's been marked. (5) Press RETURN. (6) Press A for All. (7) Sit back and watch the files unWRAP. When it's done, it'll go back to the WRAPTOR V3 Main Menu. On the output disk you'll find the USR files, ready to be read with geoWrite. Don't forget that WRAPTOR V3 can pack any PRG, SEQ or USR file, not just Geos files. The only kinds of files it can't pack are REL or CBM files. Also, even though WRAPTOR V3 says it will return to LOADSTAR on its menu, it doesn't. Sorry. Keep a copy of WRAPTOR V3 on your utilities disk because we often publish WRAPped files on LOADSTAR as well as on our BBS and online.
